Badoo: Flirting over Social Networks | Shift

Published on Jul 19, 2012 by
Classic online dating websites are out; now we have "Badoo". The British company wants to revolutionize relationships by expanding the concept of the social network to include search options for new contacts. Apparently the site already has 140 million users, and it's growing by some 125,000 new registrations a day. Its appeal? Unlike dating websites, the basic service here is free of charge. After registering, the user immediately gets recommendations for people to contact. At the same time, the user is suggested to other members - and this is where the moneymaking side of Badoo comes into play. To increase their"popularity", the user can use the "Rise Up" feature to give their profile greater prominence. A lot of users like the fact that not everyone on Badoo is looking for someone to marry.
