Olympic flag Arrives in Rio

For us the 2012 Olympics party is over. And today it was Rio's turn as the Olympic flag arrived in Rio de Janeiro, to mark the official start of the city's preparations to host the summer Games in 2016.
City mayor Eduardo Paes and the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee Carlos Arthur Nuzman stepped from the plane proudly waving the flag. It will continue to the capital Brasilia for a ceremony with President Dilma Rousseff. It will then tour Rio's notorious slums and some areas in the city's poor outskirts.

Behrokh Khoshnevis is a professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering and is the Director of Manufacturing Engineering Graduate Program at the University of Southern California (USC). He is active in CAD/CAM, robotics and mechatronics related related research projects that include the development of novel Solid Free Form, or Rapid Prototyping, processes (Contour Crafting and SIS), automated construction of civil structures, development of CAD/CAM systems for biomedical applications (e.g., restorative dentistry, rehabilitation engineering, haptics devices for medical applications), autonomous mobile and modular robots for assembly applications in space, and invention of technologies in the field of oil and gas. His research in simulation has aimed at creating intelligent simulation tools that can automatically perform many simulation functions that are conventionally performed by human analysts. His textbook, "Discrete Systems Simulation", and his simulation software EZSIM benefit from some aspects of his research in simulation. He routinely conducts lectures and seminars on invention and technology development.

'EADS bosses knew about Saudi bribes' - report

http://www.euronews.com/ Senior executives with aerospace firm EADS were reportedly told five years ago about potential bribes to Saudi Arabian officials.

The alleged scandal - now being investigated by Britain's Serious Fraud Office - involved a 2.7 billion euro billion contract awarded to an EADS subsidiary - GPT Special Project Management.

The Financial Times is now reporting a financial controller with GPT alerted his superiors in 2007.

Eurozone economy shrinks despite slim German growth

As businesses and consumers cut spending, the European statistics agency said the entire 17 nation currency bloc contracted by 0.2 percent from the first quarter.

Germany was up 0.3 percent, the Netherlands rose 0.2 percent, France was unchanged, Spain's GDP declined 0.4 percent, Italy's was down 0.7 percent and Portugal's fell 1.2 percent.

High water consumption where water is extremely scarce - Jordan's tourism industry is in a quandary. It's hoped a new facility for recycling greywater will help. In the Dead Sea Spa Hotel, water filters were recently installed, and since then a third of the valuable drinking water can be recycled as water for washing and flushing toilets.
