Aug. 30 - Clothing containing electrically conductive thread may soon lighten the load of British soldiers in the field. The clothing is designed to charge computers, GPS, radios and other equipment required by soldiers, allowing them to leave their burdensome batteries and cables behind. Joanne Nicholson reports.

Isaac once again puts Haiti under threat

Before it struck the US Gulf Coast as a hurricane, Isaac blew through southern Haiti, leaving at least two dozen dead and concerns the rains it brought could lead to an uptick in cholera cases.

Medicins Sans Frontieres says it will be difficult to tie specific cases to Isaac, but with seasonal rains arriving with force, there's more likelihood of the disease spreading further.

Meanwhile MSF is preparing for the government to take a larger role in caring for cholera patients.

China coal mine explosion kills nearly 50 people

A massive gas explosion at a coal mine in southwest China has killed 19 people, and left another 28 trapped underground.

State media reports say that 154 miners were working underground at the time of the blast in the Xiajiawan mine in Panzhihua, Sichuan province.

London put on yet another spectacular opening ceremony to lauch the Paralympic games.
Over 80,000 spectators watched as physicist Stephen Hawking invited them to "look up at the stars" and enjoy the opening ceremony.
A record 4,200 athletes are participating to represent 165 countries in the birthplace of the games.

They are the recent casualties in the wave of illegal migrants from Egypt that are taking to the shores in hopes of a better life abroad. Seven northern cheetah cubs made their public debut during a photo call at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire, north of London, on Wednesday.The septuplets were born around twelve weeks ago, and seemed to enjoy their first outing by frolicking and chasing one another around the cheetah enclosure.
For mother Dubai it's the second litter, after she gave birth to five cubs in 2010. Only three litters have ever been produced in a UK zoo, and soon enough Dubai's cubs will be playing a vital role in the survival of their species.
