Elephant Retirement Home in Burma - A Tourism Highlight

Green Hill Valley camp in Kalaw Township in Shan State Burma, is serving as a retirement home for five ailing and aging elephants, giving them safe refuge in their natural habitat. Tin Maw and her husband opened the camp in October 2011 to care for old and/or ill elephants.

Baby Elephant Photoshoot at Berlin Zoo
A new Asian elephant calf, born just on Sunday, has already become the star of Germany’s Berlin Zoo. On Wednesday, staff held a photoshoot for the calf named “Anchai” at the tender age of three-days. Already a metre high, the calf already weighs a healthy 350 pounds. Dr. Andreas Ochs, the elephant curator at Berlin Zoo, said the birthing process went well with mother Pang Pha.

Baby Rhino Orphanage Opens in South Africa
One of the world's first dedicated baby rhino orphanages has opened its doors in South Africa. The first resident is a five-month-old black rhino, who is believed to have been abandoned by his mother. The youngster is yet to be given a name, but is doing well under the 24-hour attention from staff at the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in South Africa. Located in the Limpopo Province north of Johannesburg, the center is set to give baby rhinos who have been orphaned by poachers - a new lease of life.
