Alpaca breeders gathered together to show their livestock and sell their woolen goods at the first-ever Paqocha Raymi Alpaca Festival in October 2012. Two breeders involved in Heifer's Alpaca Biodiversity in High Andean Communities project won awards for the high caliber of their animals. One of the awards was fourth place in an international alpaca contest.The recovery of the colored alpaca is one of the project's components, and participants are working to improve and reestablish the value and breeding of colored alpacas.
