The banana could soon replace many crops as a staple food source. Scientists say the fruit is more resistant to climate change than others. Bananas thrive in southern India's tropical climate - the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka produce more than 27 million tonnes of the fruit a year.
