China News: September 4th, 2012: Hillary Clinton in Beijing, Defense Minister in India

In today's NTD China News, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in China for talks amidst tensions over the South China Sea.

Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie visits India to strengthen economic and military ties. His visit draws protests from exiled Tibetans living in India.

Nearly 5,000 petitioners have converged in Beijing ahead of the Communist Party's 18th Party Congress. Beijing officials have started actions to remove the petitioners from the capital.

China's economy is slowing down, but aside from talks from senior leaders about possible stimulus package, little effective measures have been put into action.

Chinese authorities in Hunan province deny claims that local children have been unused in a US-backed study involving genetically modified rice.

A craze over a Chinese herb—caterpillar fungus—is driving up prices, making it more expensive than gold.
