Heavy rain continues to pelt southern Louisiana and Mississippi as the region tries to recover from Hurricane Isaac, now downgraded to a tropical storm. A million customers in the two states are waiting for power companies to restore their electricity. Meanwhile, to the north and south of New Orleans, the storm has left thousands of homes underwater. Skeletons of Aztec nobility found in Mexico

Archeologists in Mexico city have found what they say is the skeleton of a young woman belonging to the Aztec nobility. Rocio Morales and her team discovered the remains five metres below ground in Mexico City's Temple Mayor. Altogether nearly 1,800 bones were uncovered, believed to be the remains of seven adults and three children. The unprecedented discovery is the first evidence of mass sacrifice, or reburial of remains, for a member of the ruling class in the Aztec empire. Morales said: "It's really exciting to make this kind of discovery and be so lucky to to be the first one to dig it up and register it." Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin reports from Mexico City.

Syria refugees must vacate Lebanese schools

Syrians who sought refuge in schools in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley are being told they have to leave before the start of the school year next week. Lebanese officials have been handing out tents, but refugees have had to find somewhere to erect them. With more than 200,000 refugees now registered in countries on Syria's borders, it is further evidence of a growing humanitarian crisis. Al Jazeera's James Bays reports from the Bekaa Valley.

Spain's Bankia reports massive loss

Immediately afterwards Spain's national bank-rescue fund said it will inject emergency cash into Bankia to keep it solvent. It did not say how much.
Illustrating how big Bankia's problems are, it is setting aside 2.7 billion euros to cover loans in just the second quarter that likely will not be repaid.
Bankia, which is Spain's fourth largest lender, was created by merging seven different troubled savings banks in 2010.

India censors social media after riots

The Indian government has called on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook to remove what it calls objectionable content after sectarian violence broke out in the state of Assam. Last week the authorities blamed groups in Pakistan for circulating hate videos showing attacks against Muslims, but among the sites banned are news agencies covering the violence. Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab, reporting from Peshawar, addresses the December 2012 expiration of refugee status for Afghans in neighbouring Pakistan. Tyab says Islamabad has found itself in a "very sticky situation" since 2009, when the expiration date was first established. Our correspondent says the Pakistani government "have been dragging their heels" due to a combination of international pressure against any possible repatriation of up to three million refugees and Pakistan's own internal troubles - terrorism, increased violence, a suffering economy, and natural disasters.

Myanmar sees signs of reforms over child soldiers

Human rights groups have long criticised the use of child soldiers in Myanmar's ethnic conflicts. Part of a wave of political reforms, the government has signed a pledge to release former child soldiers from the army and reintigrate them into society. Two rebel armies have also signed a deal promising to stop recruiting children under the age of 18. In interviews obtained by Al Jazeera, former child soldiers describe what they have endured.
